Ok, since the video reviews aren’t going fantastic (let’s be realistic here, theres a certain lack of production values), a few more written ones are planned for the not too distant future.
So let’s kick em off with Lucio Fulci’s Cat in the Brain (aka. Nightmare Concert)
The film stars Fulci as himself midway through a new horror film who begins having trouble separating reality from his new project. He sees dead bodies, raw bloody meat, murderers etc. in his real life and freaks the hell out!
He sees a psychiatrist for help but when the shrink puts Fulci under in a hypnosis session, he hypnotises him into thinking that he will be responsible for any and all murders that the psychiatrist is planning for the future.
Short story, Fulci thinks he’s killing people but its all part of the shrink’s evil plan.
The film is not a great one. Quite a silly piece of shit – one might say. The highlight is the 10 second sequence where a puppet cat begins screeching and clawing around a gory brain. This scene makes the film worthwhile but quite frankly is something that is best utilized within the trailer. There really isn’t much else to redeem the film. The gore effects will make you cringe, the hot chick who shows her titties off to Fulci will make you think about how boobs have changed from the 1980’s and the rest of the film will make you wonder how much more of the film is left.
The film sets us up for big things but ends abruptly and quickly dismisses any questions the viewer may have had. This certainly is not one of Fulci’s better films.
Do I recommend Cat in the Brain?
No.
Do I recommend the trailer?
Abso-fuckin-lutely!
I was really excited about the film from what I saw in the trailer, the real thing was a disappointment. Which I guess is good marketing and why a lot of those older horror/grindhouse films were popular. Shit movies but the trailer made them look amazing, selling them to distributers and audiences.
Either way here’s the trailer, enjoy cat puppet madness!!!
